Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver except it’s playing from your neighbor’s radio that you can hear from your back porch, which you sit out on to relax in spite of the loud buzzing from the lightbulb and the hoards of moths that flock to it on summer evenings like this.

Roy Acuff was called the King of Country Music, and for more than 60 years he lived up to that title. If any performer embodied country music, it was Roy Acuff. Throughout his career, Acuff was a champion for traditional country values, enforcing his beliefs as a performer, a music publisher, and as the Grand Master of the Grand Ole Opry. Acuff was the first country music superstar after the death of Jimmie Rodgers, pioneering an influential vocal style that complemented the spare, simple songs he was performing.
Fitzgerald noticed that one of the Airman had lost his cover, but because he was holding the flag, he just had to let it go. In an act of solidarity, to renew trust and respect between NFL players and the military, and the public at large he stepped out in faith to retrieve the cover and place it back on the Airman’s head.
It’s fucking depressing how America is this huge-ass country with more than enough room for all 350 million people but somehow it’s fucking impossible for dissenters and radicals to carve out the space to do their own thing in privacy and peace without the rest of the country doing everything it can to destroy them
Like yeah obviously L. Ron Hubbard was batshit nuts but the fact that he had to buy three boats and live sailing from port to port because the US refused to let him and his followers do their own thing in their own space is honestly even more insane, it’s like a direct insult to the vision of the original colonists and the founding fathers
and don’t even get me started on the bullshit that went down with Waco, Ruby Ridge, and the Bundy Ranch
Any formation of an independent community that can realistically become self-sufficient and closed off from the rest of American society represents a threat of balkanization to the US as a whole. If a town of 5,000 farmers in Idaho were to form and establish their own closed community, the US gov must eliminate it in some way, or else the practice will inherently continue with other groups.
The United States is not, and has not been for a long time, united in any meaningful sense of the word.
The country is far too large and far too diverse, and the federal government far too strong, for the country to continue to exist without either civil war or tyranny.
